The Nutty Professor
After our sound defeat of the Blood Prince Council, we headed back to the Plagueworks to deal with its master, Professor Putricide. After making preparations, we charged in and the mad scientist met us head-on, his hands never without a vial of some deadly concoction. He tossed out flasks of slime, creating deadly pools that quickly began to expand. However, by sending one of our own people to drink from the Professor's workbench, he was able to become an abomination and consume the slime entirely.

Throughout the fight, Putricide used his powers to create a sentient blob of green ooze or putrid gas; the former would lock down a victim to prevent them from moving then charge toward them, and the latter would chase the victim around the room, causing it to gain more gas bloat and eventually become a walking bomb. However, the side effect of eating the slime was that it gave the abomination the energy to belch a ball of slime back at the oozes, slowing their movement speed. While they were being dealt with, Putricide would also toss out viles of choking gas and bouncing blobs of maleable goo that would cause crippling debuffs when they hit.

As the fight wore on, the Professor continued to drink new potions from his workbench, growing more powerful and more deformed until he was an unrecognizable hulk of corrupted flesh that hit like a freight train. On top of that, the abomination was gone and the pools of slime began to cover every square inch of the floor. We made a desperate last-ditch effort to destroy the Professor before he destroyed us, until he finally died in the last corner of open space left in the room.

Larry, Curly and Valanar
We decided to take on a fresh, new challenge and backtracked to the Crimson Hall, home of the Lich King's San'layn minions. These darkfallen were once blood elves under the command of Prince Kael'thas, but were assimilated by the Scourge after the Illidari forces failed to prevent Arthas's ascension to the Frozen Throne. Now they all served Blood-Queen Lana'thel, the one responsible for the corruption of Quel'Delar.

We fought through a small army of San'layn soldiers and spellcasters alongside some lich commanders. Then we entered the chamber at the end of the hall where we found the corpses of the princes we had already slain throughout our journeys in Northrend; Keleseth, Taldaram and Valanar. The Blood-Queen used the magic of the Darkfallen Orb to bring the them back to undeath. The Orb also linked their life force, causing only one member of the council to be able to use its power at a time.

Their magic was strong, enhanced to even deadlier degrees by the power of the Orb. Taldaram was still a master of fire, Keleseth was a skilled practitioner of shadow magic and Valanar used the power of kinetic energy against us. We fought our best, jumping between the princes as they each gained the Orb's power, whittling down their health until at last they all died in unison...for what would technically be the third time in their lives.

Bruised by the ooze
Having defeated Festergut, we moved across the hall to deal with his brother, Rotface. He also had a pet flesh hound of his own called Precious, winner of the "Best in Show" title at what must be the breeders' tournament from Hell. Like all flesh hounds, it would channel a Decimate ability and summon zombie adds.

Rotface was none too pleased when we put his dog down, but we pressed on to end his suffering and reunite them. The fight began normally enough, but Rotface's main attack was to vomit a stream of ooze at a random area and his secondary attack was to infect a victim with a mutative disease. When that person was cleansed or when the disease ran out, a sentient glob of ooze would spawn and start chasing the victim with an unbreakable focus. However, when two oozes found one another, they would instantly merge to form a bigger, stronger ooze. We had one of our plate classes taunt and agro this bigger ooze, kiting it around the perimeter of the chamber.

As he did for his other creation, Professor Putricide filled Rotface's chamber with a large pool of slime that did high damage and slowed the movement of anyone caught within it. As the fight progressed, more people became infected with the mutation disease. Each new ooze that formed would coalesce with the bigger ooze, and after five absorbtions the big ooze would explode, raining down a shower of destructive ooze bits in the center of the chamber.

By the end of the fight, the rate of infections and oozes that spawned became severely unmanagable and our raiders started dropping left and right. It was by the skin of our teeth but we succeeded in destroying Rotface and moving on to the Professor's labratory of wonderment and painful death.

A kinder, gentler, uglier Patchwerk
The ingenuity of gnomes is well-known, but when it comes to actually building or destroying things, they sure take their time. This week the door to the inner chambers of Icecrown Citadel was finally breached, and we pressed on in our pursuit of the Lich King. Before we took two steps we were confronted with a series of booby traps; wall-mounted fissures that shot out columns of frost. After moving in sequence through the dangerous corridor we came to the center of Icecrown. From there, the path split into multiple directions, each leading to hallways ending in chambers that housed the Lich King's deadliest lieutenants.

We turned left and made our way to the sector known as the Plagueworks. It was from here that Icecrown's master alchemist, Professor Putricide, carried on the work that was temporarily halted when the Ebon Blade captured the Fleshwerks. The mad scientist toiled away in his labratory on new potions and poisons while his two "children", horrific monstrosities made of mutated and disfigured body parts, stood guard in adjoining rooms. We moved up a double-sided staircase and found the abomination twins had their own tunnels guarded by a pair of flesh hounds called Stinky and Precious.

We fought Stinky and found he had the same abilities as Gluth from Naxxramas, and then moved forward to confront the first abomination, Festergut. He had been given the ability to manipulate the gas that Putricide would pump into his chamber; periodically he would create spores and inhale a portion of the gas covering the room. However, the residue from the spores gave us an immunity to the gas at max rank, and when Festergut exhaled it a short time later, it had a reduced effect but the gas caused him to gain in size and strength and smash our tanks quite severely. It took high amounts of damage in a small window of time, but we claimed victory and a server-first.

See the pic in our Gallery, which has been reworked - now the most recent boss kills appear up front, creating a flow back through our raiding history to the start of 25-man raiding in WoW.

Deathbringer Saurfang: His tears CAUSE cancer...
Muradin and his soldiers disembarked the Skybreaker and we followed. The platform we were on led directly into the heart of Icecrown Citadel, so it was likely to be heavily guarded. Sure enough, the guardian the Lich King assigned to its defense would prove to be an unparalleled challenge; the son of High Overlord Saurfang, who fell to Frostmourne at the Wrath Gate and was risen again to become a death knight named Deathbringer Saurfang.

Muradin, in his zeal, charged the undead orc and was taught a harsh lesson as Saurfang Jr. began to choke the life from him and his soldiers. He then turned his attention to us. Saurfang Jr. was strong in the powers of blood and used it to steadily increase his strength. He tossed out a blood nova at random and placed a deadly mark on random victims, which did incredible damage. He also frequently summoned a handful of blood beasts that would run out and try to bite his enemies; each successful bite would increase Saurfang's power even further.

It took ALOT of damage, and a few people perished thus causing him to regain some health, but we claimed victory in the end. Muradin and his soldiers were freed from his grip, and had only a moment to recover before Orgrim's Hammer swooped in to the side of the platform. High Overlord Saurfang stepped off alone and moved forward, setting Muradin on edge. After barely coming out of the airship battle in one piece, he wasn't about to let the orc pass, but Saurfang would fight tooth and nail to retrieve the remains of his son. Through either pity or warriors' respect, Muradin stayed his hand.

Just then, a portal from Stormwind opened and out stepped Jaina and King Wrynn. The King ordered Muradin to stand down and let Saurfang pass, and after the elder orc said a few sad words over his son's body, he collected it and approached the gathered Alliance leaders. He thanked them for their restraint and King Wrynn explained that all the stories from the survivors of Angrathar said that Dranosh Saurfang had shown unrivaled courage at the battle, and deserved a hero's death. As Jaina admired her King for the first time in a long while, Orgrim's Hammer departed and the Alliance set up a small camp to prepare for the next phase of the Icecrown assault.
