![]() | Conquering the Coliseum - Dark Angels
The Argent Crusade had recently defeated a Scourge assault on the Tournament grounds and captured prisoners that would serve as our next challengers. We soon learned that it would be against two of the Lich King's winged lieutenants; creatures of pure malice that are worshipped as divine beings by the Vrykul, and as the form of existence their females strive to ultimately ascend to - the Val'kyr.
These two val'kyr were known as Fjola Lightbane and Edyis Darkbane, and for good reason; each harnessed the powers of the Light & Shadow and could only be harmed by the energy of the other. As they began their attack, they created portals around the arena floor that shot out spheres of energy of both types that would try to damage us. However, by splitting our forces and absorbing the portals' energies, as well as the energies that came from the spheres when they exploded, we were able to grow more powerful. By using careful control of the two types of energy and unleashing our collected power to do increased damage for short bursts, we were able to destroy the val'kyr and win the challenge! Conquering the Coliseum - Fury of the Horde
The single mistake of Grand Warlock Fizzlebang had caused more catastrophy than the act of the summoning itself; a gnome bringing forth a lord of the Burning Legion was enough evidence to convince Garrosh Hellscream of Alliance duplicity. In his anger, he called the Alliance out for their assumed treachery and Varian Wrynn, having no respect for the Horde, was more than willing to meet the challenge.
Garrosh demanded that Horde champions took the place of the Argent Crusade knights that were to be the opponents in the next round of the Trial. Varian readily agreed to the proposal and told us to slaughter the Horde challengers. Despite Tirion's insistence that Fizzlebang acted alone, outside of Alliance influence, he saw that there would be no backing down of either side and agreed to the challenge. What followed was an all-out brawl between Slane Baanrit as representatives of the Alliance, and the champions of the Horde. Mages tossed spells at mages, warriors cleaved one another, hunters shot at everyone, and all the while the healers of both sides tried to keep their groups alive. We won the fight in the end, but it was a costly victory as we had lost over half of our people. Tirion regretted the loss of life, seeing it for what it was; fewer able-bodied soldiers for the upcoming assault on Icecrown. While we recuperated from battle, we were told the next challenge would have to wait as the Argent Crusade was out retrieving our next opponents from the ranks of the Scourge. Conquering the Coliseum - Lord of the Legion
The Trial took a respite while we awaited the arrival of Grand Warlock Wilfred Fizzlebang, the gnome that would summon our next challenge. We took the time to hone our skills and complete tasks for the Argent Crusade and the Silver Covenant, until the time came when the warlock finally arrived.
The warlock made his entrance to the arena floor, relishing the attention the Trial afforded him. It was made known to us that our next challenge was to be against a powerful doomguard of the Burning Legion. However, Fizzlebang got more than he bargained for when an eredar commander named Lord Jaraxxus emerged from the portal and immediately killed his summoner. Tirion instructed us to quickly dispatch the demon before he could call for reinforcements. The eredar sorceror used an arsenal of fire and shadow spells to destroy us, but we managed to withstand the damage. Unfortunantly, he was able to summon some minor reinforcements in the forms of a Mistress of Pain and three Infernals. Half the raid dealt with these while the others kept up damage on Lord Jaraxxus and tried to avoid the trails of fire that would appear under random victims. Eventually, the eredar lord was defeated to the relief of the Coliseum's spectators. In other news, the week of August 11-13 also saw us move ahead in Ulduar, adding these hard modes to the list: - Hodir - Yogg w/ 3 Keepers - 1st completed Val'anyr legendary mace Pics can be found in the Gallery! Conquering the Coliseum - The beasts of Northrend
While challengers continued to take part in the Argent Tournament, honing their skills every day, a team of skilled architects and engineers used materials taken from around Northrend to construct the Crusader's Coliseum, a grand arena of combat solely controlled by the Argent Crusade. Tirion Fordring, in his continued efforts to broker a truce between the Alliance and Horde, invited each factions' leaders to witness the Tournament and hopefully gain a spirit of cooperation. However, the distrust between Varian Wrynn and Garrosh Hellscream ran deep and neither saw the benefit of the Tournament's goals, nor did they trust the other side to abide by its rules. Yet because the Alliance and Horde needed the support of the Argent Crusade, they agreed to bear witness to the competition.
The first challenge was known as the Trial of the Champion. Using the training they had learned on the jousting grounds of the Tournament, groups of challengers fought the finest champions from the opposing faction. When a winner emerged, Argent Crusade members Eadric the Pure and Confessor Paletress arrived to further test the mettle of the challengers. As the announcer began to introduce the final challenge, the Black Knight - recently resurrected by the Cult of the Damned - flew in to spoil the competition in the name of the Lich King. After 3 rounds of him switching to various undead forms, he was finally defeated, hopefully for good. Ready for a greater challenge, Slane Baanrit entered the Coliseum to begin the Trial of the Crusader. Our first encounter would be against the most deadly, fearsome beasts of Northrend. Starting things off was a magnataur called Gormok the Impaler, who had his own team of snobolds to assist him. When he was defeated we fought against twin jormungar worms called Acidmaw and Dreadscale. They spit globs of poison and fire but fortunantly the effects would cancel each other out. The last beast was a giant yeti called Icehowl and its physical damage was formidable. However, it was not very smart and after executing a failed charge maneuver, the beast hit the wall and became disoriented, giving us time to do extra damage. In the end, we came out of our first challenge in the Trial victoriously, but our next challenge would have to wait as the warlock who would begin it had not yet arrived at the Tournament grounds. The Call of the Crusade
Brann Bronzebeard continued to research the vast libraries of data in the Archivum of Ulduar, but our victory over Yogg-Saron had given us a temporary reprieve. Luckily, a new venture was growing just along the border between the Storm Peaks and Icecrown.
The Argent Crusade, emboldened by their recent victories against the the Lich King's forces along the eastern edge of the mountains, had moved deeper into enemy territory. They realized that something had to be done to diminish the hostilities of the Alliance and Horde, something monumental that would not only encourage peace but stand as a symbol of hope in defiance of the Scourge. It would also be used to test the combat prowess of any soldier that wanted to join the Argent Crusade's tactical assault upon Icecrown Citadel, for any who went and were unprepared would become another corpse for the ranks of the undead. This project, this great calling, would become known as the Argent Tournament. An army of challengers made their way to the Tournament grounds and worked through the ranks, becoming Valiants and Champions. Those who represented each of their faction's cities and earned exhalted status with the Argent Crusade were given the rank of Crusader and access to some of the finest weapons, armors, and treasures the represented cities had to offer. However, the Scourge was not about to let such a blight on their home turf go unchecked and sent the Cult of the Damned to interfere with the Tournament. The Black Knight, a competitor of unrivaled skill and malice had risen through the ranks, but after it was revealed his allegiance rested with the Lich King, he was destroyed by one of his fellow champions.
