Slane Baanrit continued its venture into the heart of the Black Temple, and after eliminating the fel orc legions under Illidan's command, we prepared to go into a forbidden hall, where even the orcs and Broken dared not tread. It was known as the Reliquary of Souls.
The Temple of Karabor, as the Black Temple was once known, used to belong to the draenei priesthood and was a sanctuary of the Light. However, when the Horde invaded, they violently slaughtered thousands of the temple's inhabitants. Many of their spirits found no peace in death, and continued to roam there. The essence of the suffering they endured, the desire for deliverance from the bloodshed, and the anger felt as they fought for their lives all coalesced into the Reliquary. It was these essences that we battled, and although it was tough at first, we succeeded in the end. Our next phase of attack would take us to the temple's battlements, where Mother Shahraz kept watch. Our Reliquary pic is in the Gallery. A non-flashy version is linked to the pic below. Fallen is the fel orc
Recently, Slane Baanrit continued their trek into the heart of the Black Temple. Our next target was a mutant monstrosity called Gurtogg Bloodboil. Like a professional baseball player, this fel orc was injected with many unnatural chemicals. As a result, its power (and breath) transformed into something frightening. It also had the ability to infuse victims with its own corruption, causing them to become the target of Gurtogg's rage. It took quite a bit of effort, but we succeeded in destroying the monster, giving us a break before tackling the den of darkness known as the Reliquary of Souls.
In other news, the battle for the island of Quel'Danas moved forward by leaps and bounds in the time since our last update. With the Burning Legion and Kael's shock troops divided, the Sun's Reach Armory was finally captured and a draenei smith began the process of creating new, revolutionary weapons and armor. Thanks to volunteers, that too came to pass. The movement kept hounding the blood elves that held the Sun's Reach Harbor, including burning ships that were bringing in their reinforcements. Eventually, the harbor was captured, thus ending the period of major operations on the island. After recieving various donations, a great monument was built in honor of the fallen, symbolizing the unity between the Aldors and the Scryers. Although the battle was won, the war for the Sunwell was far from over. But for now, check out the kill pic of Gurtogg in our Gallery! There's the little pic below too, if you need a quick fix. The Scourge made them better...
Teron Gorefiend was a legend of the Second War, and any story about him involved fear and unimaginable evil. He was the first of Gul'dan's death knights; the malevolent souls of his Shadow Council acolytes, killed by Orgrim Doomhammer, infused into the corpses of slain knights of Stormwind. These first incarnations of death knights were responsible for some of the heaviest losses during the Second War and the subsequent invasion of Draenor by the Alliance, and Gorefiend himself was the worst of them.
Since those dark times, Gorefiend had become imprisoned within Shadowmoon Valley by the spirit of a fallen draenei paladin. However, he was inadvertently set free and rode off to the Black Temple that he once called home. As we broke into his domain, it seemed apparent that Illidan had tasked the fel orcs, mostly remnants of the Shadowmoon clan, to begin creating a new legion of death knights under Gorefiend's command. We were ready to halt their plans, by taking out their commander entirely. After fighting across the battlements, we found the veteran death knight waiting for our arrival. The battle began and he buried us in a constant stream of shadow magic. However, his greatest move was to infect us with a seed of evil, causing vicious ghosts to manifest upon our deaths. Through some miracle, we managed to control a handful of them and combined the spells of these commandeered spirits to assist in the fight. It took alot of work and plenty of coordination, but we succeeded in destroying Teron Gorefiend and sending his spirit back into the abyss, hopefully forever. As we celebrated our victory, word reached us that the Shattered Sun Offensive had succeeded in taking control of the Sun Reach Armory back in Azeroth, as well as bringing down the next magical barrier within the Sunwell Plateau! Check out our picture of a dead death knight in the Gallery. Posted on 09 Apr 2008 by Bretac
I see a blood moon rising...
While we prepared for the next conflict, against the eredar sorcerer Archimonde, problems continued back in the present time, and they were all related to another powerful eredar sorcerer and the current leader of the Burning Legion, Kil'jaeden.
As the Battle of Mount Hyjal showed, when an overwhelming destructive force comes to destroy all life as we know it, it falls upon embittered enemies to put aside their hatreds and unite. As it happened before, so too did it happen again. The forces of the Aldor and the Scryer, under the guidance of A'dal, formed a new coalition known as the Shattered Sun Offensive. The sole task of this new army was to travel back to Azeroth and assault the Isle of Quel'Danas, north of Silvermoon City, where the remains of the Sunwell resided. They arrived none too soon, as Kael'thas had already taken control of the island. The first stage of the Shattered Sun's plan was to take the Sun Reach Sanctum, and with the assistance of volunteers from the Horde and the Alliance, succeeded within a couple of days. The next part, however, involved bombing the Legion reinforcements in the south and destroying the ones that continued to pour out from a portal at Dawning Square. At this time, that part of the plan is still being carried out. As for Kael'thas himself, the intelligence from the Shattered Sun was that he had personally taken over the part of the island known as the Magister's Terrace. Groups of volunteers fought their way inside, finding blood elves, demons, and even a handful of naga guarding the stronghold. They were also greeted by a blue dragon named Kalecgos, who said that Kael'thas's ultimate plan was to use a re-energized Sunwell to summon Kil'jaeden into our world. The first step in thwarting doomsday began with ending Kael'thas's reign of terror, once and for all. Eventually, people did reach the prince. It seemed he was being kept alive by a green crystal, no doubt full of fel energy. As a result, his physical appearance had deteriorated into something akin to one of the Wretched. Despite this, he had retained all his old tricks from Tempest Keep, and used them to deadly efficiency. It was not enough to save himself, but as he died he swore that the work on the Sunwell would continue and Kil'jaeden would arrive. Some volunteers began to make forays into the Sunwell Plateau, while the battle to conquer the island continued. We would join them eventually, but Slane Baanrit would continue our work at the Caverns of Time and the Black Temple, lest the world be threatened by the enemy we forgot. You can see the new version of Kael'thas in the new section of our Gallery. Posted on 05 Apr 2008 by Bretac
Thrall can't do crap to pit lords w/o Grom...but we can!
As is probably known, Slane Baanrit has been working their way steadily through the Battle of Mount Hyjal, reliving history and trying to prevent any disruptions to the timeline. Recently, we fought during the portion of the battle that found us squarely in the middle of the Horde base, fending off increasingly difficult assaults from the Burning Legion and their undead lackeys.
With the defeat of the doomguard Kaz'rogal, we were ready to continue the fight with renewed resolve. Sure enough, the undead assaulted the Horde base again with the usual mix of ground and air troops. However, the battle took a turn for the worse when bolts of molten rock crashed into the ground all over the base, signifying the arrival of infernals. The taurens held their own in the north, while Thrall and his shamans took out the ones in the back. We dealt with the infernals near our battle line then ran to help our Horde allies. The assault was pacified but the demonic presence continued with the next wave, consisting of more infernals and a large pack of felhounds. Each wave was defeated until Archimonde's 2nd-in-command decided to deal with us himself. It was the pit lord Azgalor, trained well in the ways of combat by Mannoroth before his death. We fought the demon general outside of the Horde barracks, with Thrall and his shamans assisting. Although he was a warrior at heart, Azgalor knew a bit of fel magic, and summoned a rain of fire as often as he could, which wreaked havoc on the orcs. His deadliest spell caused random victims to drop dead, creating a doomguard from their remains. Luckily, the taurens helped to eliminate them quickly. It took alot of perseverance, but we succeeded in killing Azgalor! Check out the picture in our Gallery. Posted on 03 Apr 2008 by Bretac
